Temperament:
Exotic in appearance, the look of Puma, Panther or Lion; they are very sweet with people, if people are sweet with them. Well socialized by a good breeder, Chausies are healthy tempered since kittenhood and will keep being such as adults, only if you as the owner will respect them, so they can fully trust you and rely on you throughout their life. They aren't toys, they are addition to your family, treat them as such and just watch how the intricate bond happens. They never scratch, unless you're one of 'those' people who provoke cats and if you do, pets aren't for you.
They are clever and easy to train. They won't understand you at first, don't get aggravated, Chausie learns quick. They tend to be curious in the beginning, but if you have their respect, they will even avoid 'taboo' areas, even when you aren't around. They are careful not to fling things off surfaces, if they do, it's usually on accident. They're cool cats. Chausies usually seek attention more than other cat breeds too; and get attached to one person in the family but will be friendly with everyone in the household.
They're 'okayish' of being picked up, but some will jump on your lap or shoulder if they need attention. Chausies like to play, don't neglect them. To relieve your cat from frustration and boredom, create some daily quality time for them, playing with your cat with a string toy on a wand, Chausies like to run around. They're a moderately hyper breed.
Characteristics:
Chausies are bred to be larger, than traditional domestic breeds. The breed doesn't have a general illness. Due to being hybrid, which means shorter intestines, they can't digest grains and fiber. The breed doesn't need a ton of grooming but requires some. They can live 20+ years. Chausies may or may not have ear tufts, it isn't important.
As other large cats, Chausies take up to 3 years to reach full size. They grow in height and length until 2, and until 3 they gain thickness. They are known for their 6 feet vertical leap. Males that have more than 14% wild genes are usually sterile; F1-F2 males are sterile always. Now days Jungle Cat is bred directly to Chausie.
Ancient Egypt:
The Chausie is a hybrid to the Jungle Cat and the domestic. Their history dates back to the ancient Egypt, around 3000 BC. Mummified domestic cats and Jungle Cats were discovered in tombs with their homeowners, to accompany them into the afterlife. That could mean that Ancient Egyptians bred Chausies.
TICA:
A few people experimented with breeding F. Chaus to F. Catus in the late 1960s and 1970s. Their intention was to create a breed that resembles the Jungle Cat, but perfectly domesticated. The Chausie breed did not truly begin until the 90's, when a dedicated group of breeders named the breed and developed a planned breeding program and goals. These breeders asked for and were granted registration status by TICA in 1995.
The breed worked its way through the New Breed Class from May 2001 through April 2013 and became TICA's newest Championship breed on May 1, 2013. Chausies are now being bred in both North America and Eurasia. The breed has begun the new breed recognition process in the World Cat Federation (WCF).
TICA Chausie breed standard allows three colors: brown ticked tabby, black grizzled ticked tabby, and black. Although, Chausies are born with a variety of other colors and patterns; they can be brown tabby; silver, blue, red tabbies or ticked and even white. However, only F4 (and later) cats with three permitted colors can be entered to the TICA cat championship.
